Each student marked my life in a certain way. But the meeting with the beautiful Casiana was a joy for my whole being. Her talent, her thirst for knowledge, her determination, her attention with which she absorbed every word are a rarity nowadays. At the same time, I have always looked at her with a sigh of relief, because I know that her suffering is permanent and that her move among the angels can be much sooner than in our case, for the majority. When she was four months old, she was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease, cystic fibrosis, and for three years, insulin-dependent diabetes was added. I tremble every time I think of the ruthless sentence communicated to my mother by doctors: "Ma'am, your child is not 18!".

She is now 16 years old, lives in Moldoveni commune, is a ninth grade student at the “Ionel Perlea” Art High School in Slobozia and a ray of sunshine has appeared for her, a hope: since December 2019 there is “TRIKAFTA” (from Vertex), an innovative treatment, according to the genetic sequence. This treatment, taken monthly, provides an extra breath of air (slows down the destruction of the lungs). In other words, it takes her away from the moment that no parent can conceive of, when the child's life will depend only on an oxygen cylinder, announcing its end.

Because the parents do not want to arrive too soon at that moment, they set up the association that bears the girl's name, "Speranța Casiana", to try with us to be able to purchase this treatment that costs in America $ 25,000, and in the Great Britain about € 23,000 a month. In Romania, there is currently no problem for this treatment to be included in a national program, perhaps because "only" 500 children and young people struggle daily with this relentless disease in our country.

I conclude with my mother's words: "Above all these trials is the fear that at any moment I might lose my child. My only hope remains you, my friends, acquaintances and people with a big heart, who will want to be with me in the fight to keep my child alive, despite all the obstacles we face. May God reward you all! ”
